THE OXFORD BLOG
Like many in the field of early education, I feel like I’ve been working with and caring for young children for almost all of my life. As a teen, I babysat every weekend and summer. I worked jobs as a skate guard at the local ice rink and a lifeguard at a small lake in my hometown. I even worked as the Asst. Manager of a Stride Rite store (a shoe store for small children)!
I attended the University of Akron and The Ohio State University with the intent of becoming an elementary school teacher. During college, I worked at a childcare center and fell in love with the excitement for learning and curiosity that young children exude! I worked in a variety of capacities within the childcare facility including Infant, Toddler, PreK and Kindergarten teachers. I then moved into an administrative position as Center Director.
In 2004 I was connected (by a child care licensing specialist) to a gentleman (and young father) who was opening a childcare facility. I came on board as Center Director. Soon thereafter, he decided that owning a child care facility wasn’t all that he’d expected. So, nine months after opening our doors (April 15, 2005) he approached me about buying the business from him. And in April of 2006 (just one month before welcoming my first child), I purchased The Oxford Schools. In 2010 we opened our second location in the same building that I had begun my child care management career many years before!
My philosophy and mission – to build Strong Minds, Healthy Bodies and, Happy Kids – is evident in what we do every day. Our programs at Oxford are designed to meet the needs of busy parents and make sure that our students are more than prepared to be competitive in their future schooling, be active and healthy, and most importantly create fond memories of just being a kid!
